This year was characterised by significant events such as the assassination of Federal Prosecutor General Siegfried Buback, the sporting highlights of Olympian Guido Kratschmer and the heyday of Queen Elizabeth II's reign.

  • On Tuesday, 12 May, Prof. Dr Rembert Hüser from Goethe University will give a lecture on the life of the important director Fritz Lang, who died in 1976. Fritz Lang had a major influence on German film in the 1920s and is now regarded as one of the most influential directors in film history. The title of the lecture is "The film pioneer and director Fritz Lang".
  • The topic of Tuesday 19 May will be "The assassination of Federal Prosecutor General Siegfried Buback by the RAF". Buback was Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1974 to 1977 and was considered a staunch opponent of terrorism, especially the "Red Army Faction", which kept the republic in suspense.   • For those interested in sport, the lecture "The year 1976 from a sporting perspective" will take place on Tuesday, 2 June. For this event, the VHS has invited Guido Kratschmer, silver medallist in the decathlon at the Summer Olympics in Montreal (1976) and Olympic silver medallist in the decathlon in Los Angeles (1984). On this evening, Kratschmer will talk about his sporting career and enter into dialogue with the participants.
  • Another highlight of the event series is the lecture by qualified journalist and RTL aristocracy expert Michael Begasse, who will talk about "The Queen from A to Z" on Tuesday, 9 June.
