Up to 2.6 million euros pledged
City of Beckum receives funding for district park "An der Steinbruchallee"
On behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, KfW thus approved an earmarked grant amounting to 80 per cent of the eligible costs, with a maximum funding amount of around EUR 2.6 million.
"From the outset, the area to the north-west of the new 'An der Steinbruchallee' development area was planned as a public green space. This area was previously used for limestone quarrying, so there can be no residential development here. However, the funding creates completely different possibilities here," says Uwe Denkert, Head of the Urban Development Department, delighted with the funding approval.
The funding will support the realisation of the new district park, which is due to be completed by the end of 2027. The green space will include elements that promote biodiversity, such as sunny edges, standing and lying deadwood as well as water and wetlands. Nesting boxes and insect habitats will also be included. In addition, a high degree of shading by tree crowns is planned.
Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich states with satisfaction: "The generous support from KfW is a great success for our city. The municipal team did an excellent job in preparing the funding application. The new neighbourhood park will not only be a valuable place to meet and relax, but will also make a significant contribution to climate protection and climate change adaptation." Without this funding, a project of this quality and size could not be realised. For every euro invested, up to four euros in funding would be added.
The planned project aims to create an attractive open space on the edge of the new "An der Steinbruchallee" development area that fulfils both ecological and social functions for the neighbourhood and the entire north of Beckum.
