Neubeckum also gets an exercise area for dogs

900 square metres of freedom of movement for four-legged friends

There is now more space for dogs in Neubeckum: a new dog exercise area has been set up to the east of the Harberg sports centre, near the mini golf course. In future, four-legged friends will be able to run freely and off the lead in an area of around 900 square metres.

The area is secured with a 1.80 metre high bar fence. Access for people and animals is via a sluice. The equipment includes a bench for the owners, a rubbish bin and a bag dispenser. Nothing stands in the way of the dogs romping around in the designated area.

The main, finance and digital committee decided to set up the space in November 2024. The costs amount to around 20,000 euros.

A similar area has been available in Beckum am Kollenbach since August 2023 and has been very well received by the local population.

"Many people in Neubeckum have also expressed a desire for such an opportunity. We are delighted to now be able to fulfil it," says Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich.

As dog exercise areas are an exception to the current leash requirement, the existing regulatory ordinance of the city of Beckum must be amended accordingly. The amendment will be on the agenda at the next council meeting on 10 July.
