on schedule and more favourable than expected
Jahnstadion as good as new and opened on time
Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich was one of the first to test out the refurbished running tracks. Together with the heads of the Education, Culture and Leisure department and the Environment and Construction department, the head of administration inspected the newly renovated pitch: "The speedy implementation of this project was crucial - the upcoming high jump meeting can take place in our modernised stadium as planned. With the refurbishment, we are sending out a clear signal in favour of sport and leisure in Beckum - and making a targeted investment in the future of our city."
Work began in May. The specialist company commissioned first rolled up the existing artificial turf and repaired the underlying elastic base layer in places. The new synthetic turf was then laid lane by lane. The surface was then filled with quartz sand and cork, and the lines for the large pitch and youth football were installed.
Another specialist company then set about renovating the running track and the javelin throw run-up track. The run-up track was realigned and the shot put facility on the practice field was fitted with new launching rings. The inner track of the running track was repaired due to deep running marks, and then all tracks were given a new spray coating over a total area of 6,400 square metres.
The work was completed on schedule - and everything went smoothly financially too: thanks to the early tendering process, the total costs remained below the calculated sum at around 460,000 euros.
