City of Beckum launches municipal heat planning
Step by step towards the heat transition
Together, the two partners are developing a targeted and implementation-orientated heating plan that is tailored to Beckum's specific requirements and potential. The project was launched this week and is scheduled for completion in June 2026.
The current local heat supply situation is comprehensively analysed as part of municipal heat planning. For this purpose, a detailed inventory is carried out, in which the potential for the use of renewable energies and the utilisation of waste heat in particular is determined. Based on these findings, a target scenario is developed that divides the city into different heat supply areas. The aim is to identify and develop specific measures for a sustainable and future-orientated heat transition strategy.
What does this mean for Beckum?
Heat planning supports the city in achieving its long-term climate targets. By 2045, the heat supply should be climate-neutral and at the same time economical. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) guidelines on heat planning emphasise the importance of clear perspectives for the future supply and provide guidance for building owners and companies. In this way, well-founded investment decisions can be made in favour of modern and sustainable heating systems.
Legally, heat planning is supported by the Heat Planning Act (WPG) and the Building Energy Act (GEG). It is important to note that no rights or obligations arise from the heat plan. Rather, it serves as a basis for political decisions on the designation of heating network areas without prescribing a specific infrastructure.
Working together for a sustainable future
Municipal heat planning is a central component of local climate protection and the shaping of a sustainable energy future. energielenker projects GmbH contributes its extensive expertise in energy and climate strategies and supports the town of Beckum in the implementation of this forward-looking project.
A key success factor is the involvement of relevant stakeholders, including local companies, energy suppliers and citizens. Close cooperation and transparent dialogue should accelerate the implementation of the measures and strengthen local acceptance.
Information and transparency for citizens
During the project period, information on the progress of the municipal heat planning will be published regularly on the municipal website. Once the planning has been completed, a comprehensive information event is planned at which the results will be presented and questions from the public will be answered.
By law, the municipal heating plan for Beckum must be available by mid-2028 at the latest and is fully financed by the state of NRW.
