City cycling: Participants honoured

Beckum once again at the forefront

From 10 to 30 May, 790 active participants in 59 teams cycled a total of 163,482 kilometres - slightly exceeding the previous year's result despite lower participation. With 13,990 journeys, Beckum is once again one of the top places in the district-wide comparison.

Honours for top sporting performance and luck of the draw

Special participants were rewarded for their commitment during a festive closing event at the town hall. The most committed cyclists were honoured - including the three first-placed cyclists and the most experienced and youngest participants:

Hans Peter Müller was the most creative and hard-working Beckum participant with 2,025 kilometres and took first place, followed by Sandra Sonnabend with 1,635 kilometres and Birgit Horn with 1,317 kilometres.

Inka (8 years) and Jannik Becker vor der Sandfort (5 years) were also honoured as the youngest cyclists. As last year, the most experienced participants were Gerda-Marie and Helmut Schäpers. Luck of the draw was also rewarded: the winners of the prize draw were chosen at random from all the participants.

The prizes included city vouchers, bike inspection vouchers, repair kits and bike bags, sponsored by Beckumer Fahrradlager, Elektro Pelkmann, Energieversorgung Beckum, Sparkasse Münsterland Ost and Stadtmarketing Beckum. Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich personally presented the certificates and prizes to the honoured cyclists and thanked everyone once again for their participation.

A lot of CO₂ saved

A total of around 1.43 million kilometres were cycled in the Warendorf district - with 7,216 participants in 427 teams. This corresponds to a CO₂ saving of 235 tonnes. As one of the most active towns in the district, Beckum once again made a significant contribution to this strong overall result.
