Athlete of the Year Award 2024
Ultimate Frisbee plays its way onto the winners' podium

Benjamin Steinhoff was named "Sportsman of the Year" after winning the European Championship title with his U17 Ultimate Frisbee team from TV Beckum 1892 e. V. The "Team of the Year 2024" title is shared by the U14 and U20 Ultimate Frisbee teams from TV Beckum 1892 e. V. Both teams achieved identical successes and each came first at the NRW Championships - both indoors and outdoors.
Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich congratulated all those honoured: "Whether in climbing, ultimate frisbee, swimming or tennis - you are top in your sport and 'play' in the top league!" He emphasised the supra-regional appeal of Beckum's top athletes: "You carry Beckum's sporting image into the region, the country and even the world."
Markus Schiewe from the city sports association, which sees itself as a link between the clubs and the city, added: "It is the voluntary work in the Beckum clubs that makes such top performances possible in the first place."
Dr Stefan Bürger, Deputy Member of the Management Board of Sparkasse Münsterland Ost, emphasised the importance of grassroots sport and Sparkasse Münsterland Ost's wide-ranging commitment to sport.
Cornelia Baumann, Head of the Education, Culture and Leisure Department of the City of Beckum, performed the eagerly awaited award ceremonies and honoured the award-worthy achievements. The nominations were made by the sports clubs in consultation with the city sports association and were then assessed using a points system.
