Beckum as a guest at the Westphalian Hanseatic Day in Recklinghausen
Positive response: anniversary celebrations and Hanseatic Day are recognised nationwide
One year after the Hanseatic celebrations in Beckum as part of the town's big anniversary weekend, Recklinghausen hosted the Hanseatic event this year.
With various concerts, a medieval market and even an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the largest string orchestra in the world, the Recklinghausen Hanseatic Day had plenty to offer. However, the centre of the hustle and bustle was the Hanseatic market next to the town hall, where 34 other Hanseatic towns presented themselves alongside the town of Beckum.

So close to the summer holidays, the flyers and brochures about the various cycle routes in and around Beckum were particularly popular with visitors. "It was great to see how many people were interested in our city and our region as a destination for excursions," summarises Pascal Rückert, Head of City Marketing. "We were often asked about last year's Hanseatic Day in Beckum, which people remembered favourably," Rückert continues. "Of course, it's great feedback for us that we were able to promote Beckum so well with the event in 2024."
However, the town of Beckum was also an important part of the Hanseatic Day outside of the market. The members' meeting of the Westphalian Hanseatic League looked back on the Hanse Convention in Beckum. Dr Rudolf Grothues, deputy mayor of the town of Beckum and Hanseatic delegate, revived the memories of the festival weekend with a video and photos at the joint meeting of all Westphalian Hanseatic towns. Beckum once again received great applause from the Hanseatic League and the member cities and a huge thank you for organising the celebrations in 2024.
The next Westphalian Hanseatic Day will take place in Hamm on 11 and 12 April 2026.
