Scouts collect old mobile phones

Donate a mobile phone and do good

Every household has a drawer full of used mobile phones. They contain valuable raw materials such as copper, silver, gold and rare earths. "In the Congo, the chemicals from the production of our mobile phones can be found in the landscape. We want to raise awareness of this and at the same time help families in need with the donations," says group leader Felix Wessel. "Of course, I'm very happy to support this again," says Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich when several scouts visit the town hall.

Around 1,000 mobile phones are collected by the DPSG St. Stephanus scouts during each collection campaign. "That makes us one of the frontrunners in NRW," continues Wessel. The scouts make it easy for the people of Beckum: put your discarded mobile phone in a bag, throw it in one of the boxes and do something good. The proceeds will go to missio's "Schutzengel" campaign for families in need, including families in the Congo. The data will be deleted beforehand by a specialised company.

The boxes are located here:
The mobile phone collection boxes will be available over the next few weeks at the Beckum Citizens' Office, supermarkets, the public library, BE-lebt and other shops.
