Zebra crossing at the library
Propsteigasse shines in new splendour
The final measure from the Integrated Action and Measures Concept for Beckum Town Centre 2012 (IHMK) has thus reached its crowning conclusion. Propsteigasse was fitted with the same concrete block paving and natural stone band as Marktplatz and Kirchplatz, creating a harmonious overall appearance. The area is complemented by a tactile guidance system and four new flower pots, which provide additional quality of stay.

The neighbourhood has also undergone significant urban development: The newly constructed apartment block blends seamlessly into the existing buildings and makes a significant contribution to enhancing the neighbourhood.

"In close cooperation with the parish and a private investor, we have succeeded in sustainably improving this part of the city centre. Everything fits together harmoniously," said Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich enthusiastically. The entire area is of outstanding importance for the further development of the city centre.
Pedestrian crossing creates safety

To improve pedestrian traffic, a new pedestrian crossing was also created between the public library and the church square as part of the project. Zebra crossings, lighting, signage and a tactile guidance system now ensure a better route and greater safety for passers-by. In addition, four new bicycle stands were installed in front of the library to improve the facilities for cyclists.
The total costs for both construction projects amount to around 560,000 euros. The town of Beckum is expecting an urban development subsidy of 150,000 euros (subject to the final invoice) and around 123,000 euros in KAG contributions (= development contributions in accordance with the Local Rates Act), which are also subsidised by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
