Honorary sponsorships of the Federal President

  • Performance specification

Anyone who has seven or more children can apply for an honorary godparenthood from the Federal President.

The Federal President assumes the honorary godparenthood if, including the godchild, seven living children are descended from the same parents or the same parent (mother or father). In the case of multiple births, the Federal President assumes the honorary godparenthood for all children born together with the seventh child.

An honorary sponsorship can only be claimed once for a family. The child must have German citizenship.

The birth of the seventh child must not be more than one year ago. In exceptional cases, this period can be extended to up to three years. To do so, you must demonstrate that you were not previously aware of the possibility of an honorary godparenthood.

The honorary sponsorship is primarily symbolic in nature. After checking the requirements, the Federal President signs a certificate of honorary sponsorship. He has this presented to the parents by a representative of the local authority together with a sponsorship gift of currently €500.

The application to become an honorary godparent must be submitted to the Office of the Federal President via the local town or municipal administration.
After checking the requirements, the Federal President issues a certificate of acceptance of the honorary sponsorship and has this presented to the parents with a sponsorship gift (currently €500) by a representative of the town of Beckum.
