  • Performance specification

    If you want to sell goods without renting a shop but, for example, from a snack cart or vendor's tray, you must apply for a travelling trade permit.
    In contrast to the standing trade, there is no fixed place of business here (e.g. shop, fixed sales stand).
    The travelling trade permit is required, for example, for selling at markets or on the doorstep.

    Legal bases in general

    § 55 and 55 d Trade, Commerce and Industry Regulation Act (GewO)

  • Required documents

    • Application form
    • Identity card or passport without requirements with a residence permit or residence authorisation
    • The travel business card is issued with the period of validity only in connection with the respective passport entry
    • Certificate of good conduct type "O" (to be applied for at the Citizens' Registration Office)
    • Information from the Central Business Register of document type "9" (also applied for at the Citizens' Registration Office)

      both documents will be sent directly to the Public Order Office after verification,
      therefore, when applying at the Citizens' Registration Office, enter the address of the Public Order Office and the purpose of use "travel trade card".

    • VAT booklet, if already registered as a trader with an established business at the tax office

    or

    • Exemption certificate (this certificate exempts you from keeping a VAT booklet)
    • -2- Recent photographs


    Additionally for persons WITHOUT German citizenship:

    • Permit under aliens law for self-employment (passport entry).
    • A current confirmation of registration (issued at the Citizens' Registration Office).
  • Costs

    According to the general administrative fee regulations, a fee range of between € 50.00 and € 500.00 is provided for this purpose.
    The fees are set in accordance with the Fee Act for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia of 23 November 1971 in conjunction with tariff item 12.12.1 of the general administrative fee regulations of 3 July 2001, as amended.
