Identity card (temporary)

  • Performance specification

    If you urgently need an identity document, you can apply for a temporary identity card. However, you should also apply for the final federal identity card at the same time. When applying for documents for children, the children must also be present in person when applying.
    The validity of the temporary ID card is limited to a maximum of three months.

    Note

    From May 2025, passport photos mayonly be taken digitally. From May 2025, digital passport photos can be taken directly by a professional photographer or at the Citizens' Office. Printed passport photos will no longer be accepted from 1 May 2025. The Federal Ministry of the Interior wants to prevent manipulation in this way.

  • Required documents

    • Old identity card or passport, even if these have already expired
    • If you do not have an identity card or passport, please bring your birth certificate with you
    • A current digital passport photo presented by a QR code, these digital passport photos can only be taken at the photographer or directly at the citizens' offices
    • Declaration of consent by the legal guardian for persons under 16 years of age
    • If a foreign nationality has been lost or acquired, proof must be provided

  • Costs

    • Provisional identity card 10,00 Euro
    • 6.00 Euro per passport photo taken at the Citizens' Office
