Identity card (temporary)

  • Performance specification

    If you urgently need an identity document, you can apply for a temporary identity card. However, you should also apply for the final federal identity card at the same time. When applying for documents for children, the children must also be present in person when applying.
    The validity of the temporary ID card is limited to a maximum of three months.

    Note

    Seit Mai 2025 dürfen Passbilder nur noch digital erstellt werden. Die digitalen Passfotos können seit Mai 2025 direkt bei einem Berufsfotografen oder im Bürgerbüro gemacht werden. Ausgedruckte Passbilder werden seit dem 01.05.2025 nicht mehr angenommen. Das Bundesinnenministerium will so Manipulationen verhindern.

  • Required documents

    • Old identity card or passport, even if these have already expired
    • If you do not have an identity card or passport, please bring your birth certificate with you
    • Ein aktuelles digitales Passbild vorgelegt durch einen QR-Code. Diese digitalen Passbilder können nur noch beim Fotografen oder direkt in den Bürgerbüros erstellt werden
    • Declaration of consent by the legal guardian for persons under 16 years of age
    • If a foreign nationality has been lost or acquired, proof must be provided

  • Costs

    • Provisional identity card 10,00 Euro
    • 6.00 Euro per passport photo taken at the Citizens' Office
