Review of the year: Corona low overcome

New record in the history of the VHS

The switch from the programme booklet to the new programme brochure has therefore paid off in full. QR codes in the brochure can be used to access the relevant subject areas online and book courses digitally. This has drastically increased the number of visits to the VHS website: While there were 7,970 hits in August 2022, almost 91,000 hits were registered in May 2025.

Thanks to the increased interest, the courses were attended more intensively than ever before. With an impressive 18,169 teaching units, the VHS set a new record in its almost 50-year history. Of the 707 planned courses, 554 were successfully realised, in which a total of 6,253 participants expanded their knowledge.

There has also been a positive development in integration courses: with 9 courses, VHS Beckum-Wadersloh is offering more than ever before. A total of 17 dedicated course instructors are looking after 165 participants. The success rate here is 95 per cent.

The Health department is in particularly high demand and organises the most events. The numerous cookery courses are very popular. And 320 participants benefited from the "Education on demand" programme in 37 specially organised courses.

"The hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic has now finally been overcome and the VHS is back in full swing," said Dr Rauter, who thanked all cooperation partners and participants for their trust. "In the coming year 2025/26, which has the motto 'upwards', we will continue to do everything we can to expand the quality of the diverse and colourful programme," said the VHS director. This also includes the study forum in Wadersloh, which will start again in mid-September and will be dedicated to the topic of "Architecture". "I'm delighted that we've been able to get Friedensreich Hundertwasser's friend and companion, graduate engineer Heinz M. Springmann, to join us," reveals Rauter.
