Budget 2026 adopted
The budget debate was the focus of the council meeting on 5 March. The chairmen of the 6 parliamentary groups gave their opinions on the 2026 budget. In the subsequent vote, the 2026 budget planning received a majority with the votes of the CDU, FWG and FDP. The SPD, Greens and Left Party voted against. Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich abstained.
Higher global reduction in expenditure, no reduction in trade tax, preliminary discussion of planned investments in the newly established "Finance Compass" working group: during the budget consultations and in particular at the last meeting of the main, finance and digital committee, a number of changes to the draft presented by Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich and City Treasurer Thomas Wulf in December were approved by a majority.
As a result, the forecast annual deficit in the profit plan is now 5.56 million euros. An expected income of 139 million euros is offset by 144.56 million euros on the expenditure side. Trade tax income is expected to total around 30 million euros.
