Adventure lessons for 600 primary school children

Drinking water protection - it's that simple

What exactly is water? Why is it so important? Can I drink tap water without hesitation? Pupils in Year 4 at the Kastanien primary school were given answers to these and other questions during the "Drinking water protection learning experience".

The primary school on Brinkmannstraße is the first stop of the learning theatre that Energieversorgung Beckum (evb), the city of Beckum, Wasserversorgung Beckum (WVB) and Sparkasse Münsterland Ost are bringing to the 5 primary schools in Beckum this week. It is being organised by the education agency FS Infotainment.

A total of around 600 primary school pupils learn important knowledge about drinking water in this playful learning format. Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich, Dr Daniel Dierich, Managing Director of evb, Mirko Bachmeyer, Authorised Signatory and Commercial Director of WVB, and Jürgen Wenning, Board Member of Sparkasse, also took part in the kick-off event. "Just like energy, water is a valuable commodity. The constant availability of both is a matter of course for many people these days, so it is all the more important to raise awareness of the need to use our resources sparingly as early as possible," says Dr Daniel Dierich, explaining the commitment.

Mirko Bachmeyer emphasises: "At WVB, we work every day to ensure that our customers in Beckum and in 9 other towns and municipalities in the districts of Warendorf, Soest and Gütersloh receive flawless drinking water - all they have to do is turn on their taps. The lessons explain where the water comes from and what we do to make this possible, thus promoting an understanding of water as a precious foodstuff." The Mayor of Beckum, Michael Gerdhenrich, and the Sparkasse board member Jürgen Wenning also agree: "This is an innovative learning format with many eye-opening effects. "We are delighted to be able to support such a great way of imparting knowledge," emphasises Jürgen Wenning.

Playful knowledge transfer
The learning experience, designed by experienced educators, uses multimedia learning elements, games and quizzes. Pupils learn new things about water as a resource in a fun way and then make the connection to their own lives. An educational format that has already proven its worth in Beckum in 2025: Sponsored by evb, the town of Beckum and Sparkasse Münsterland Ost, FS-Infotainment travelled to primary schools in Beckum last year with the learning experience on the topic of energy.
