Beckum extends its membership of the Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW

The town of Beckum is expanding its commitment to environmentally friendly transport development: With the extension of its membership in the NRW Future Mobility Network and targeted further training for employees of the administration, important steps have once again been taken.

Since 2018, Püttstadt has been part of the state-wide network that supports local authorities in developing sustainable mobility strategies. The partnership has now been officially extended. Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich and Dr Tobias Bödger from Zukunftsnetz signed the new framework agreement.

The Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW is a model of success: launched by the state government in 2016, the network now comprises well over 300 towns, municipalities and districts across North Rhine-Westphalia. As part of their membership, local authorities gain access to a wide range of services. The Future Mobility Network supports towns and municipalities in particular with the initiation and implementation of local mobility management schemes, advises on funding opportunities and provides expertise – for example, on transport plans.

For Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich, the range of services was one reason for extending the agreement: “We have had very positive experiences with Zukunftsnetz over the past few years and have received support on many mobility-related issues. Therefore, extending the framework agreement was a foregone conclusion for us. We are delighted to remain part of this network and to be able to contribute our own practical experience.”

In Beckum, the network played a major supporting role in projects such as the ‘Stadtterrassen’ and the pedestrian traffic review.

Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW
Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW is a state-wide network for local authorities, towns and districts. It is supported by the Zweckverband Nahverkehr Westfalen-Lippe, the Rhein-Ruhr Transport Association and the Rhein-Sieg Transport Association. It is supported by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The vision of the Future Mobility Network NRW is for everyone in North Rhine-Westphalia to enjoy climate-neutral and sustainable mobility. The Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW helps local authorities to create the framework conditions for sustainable mobility development through a local mobility management scheme and to implement these in concrete measures.
