Until the end of the year
Trenchless sewer rehabilitation using the pipe lining method
The area includes the streets Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße, Wilhelm-Busch-Straße, Gustav-Freytag-Straße, Im Südfelde (southern area), Adolf-Kolping-Straße, Fritz-Reuter-Straße, Martin-Luther-Straße, Auf Sonnenschein and Klarastraße.
In some cases, there will be daily closures and diversions in the relevant street. Residents will be informed in advance at short notice. A total of 1,900 metres of combined sewer will be renovated during this project.
Tube lining is a trenchless rehabilitation method in which a special tube made of glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) is inserted into the sewer to be rehabilitated. The textile hose made of glass fibres is impregnated with a resin and inserted into the sewer through the manholes on the construction site. Using compressed air, this hose is pressed onto the old sewer with a positive fit and cured using UV light. A service life of 50 years is assumed for the rehabilitated sewers.
This method offers considerable cost benefits compared to open-cut renewal, as work is carried out exclusively via the neighbouring shafts and no earthworks or construction work is required. In addition, the restrictions on road traffic are very low.
