Yellow Ribbon campaign in the Warendorf district
Harvesting and utilising fruit from Beckum
Harvest time is just around the corner - and the "Action Alliance for Biodiversity in the District of Warendorf" cordially invites everyone to utilise the ripe fruit of the fruit trees in our cultivated landscape. This is because it is almost impossible to harvest and utilise the fruit during the peak period, and fruit trees in public areas are often not harvested either.
The district-wide "Yellow Ribbon" project provides a remedy. Fruit trees marked with a yellow ribbon are authorised for harvesting. The prerequisite is, of course, that the trees are treated with care and the fruit is only picked for personal consumption.
The town of Beckum is once again taking part in this campaign. Although the yellow ribbon will not be applied to all municipal trees, the well-known municipal orchards on Alter Hammweg, Ahlener Straße, Altendiestedder Weg, in the southern Westpark and on Pflaumenallee will be available to all residents to look after.
Fruit to give away?
Private fruit tree owners in Beckum can obtain the yellow ribbons free of charge from the district of Warendorf to mark the trees in their front gardens or accessible commercial and agricultural areas.
More information on locations, picking times and ripeness can be found on the Warendorf district's meadow orchard blog at https://www.netzwerk-streuobstwiese-kreis-warendorf.de
