Village development concept for Vellern

A village development concept (DIEK) was drawn up for Vellern in 2018 with funding from rural development. The DIEK represents a comprehensive holistic perspective as a steering instrument for future developments in Vellern.

The aim is to preserve the evolved structures and characteristic features in the long term and at the same time to strive for sustainable development by implementing the projects and measures developed in the DIEK for Vellern.

The council of the city of Beckum adopted the village development concept (DIEK) for Vellern on 27 November 2018:

Vellern district

Today, Vellern has about 1,100 inhabitants. Vellern has a good infrastructure with a kindergarten and primary school in the centre of the village and businesses on the outskirts. The history of the village of Vellern begins as early as 1193 with the elevation of the parish. Since then, the village has undergone lively development without losing its original character. Today, about 75 percent of the Vellern district is still used for agriculture.
