Register funeral
Performance specification
Pursuant to § 8 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Burial Act, the following are obliged to provide burial services in the following order of priority:
- Spouses
- Life partner
- adult children
- Parents
- adult siblings
- Grandparents and
- Grandchildren of full age
As a rule, the funeral director takes over the organisation of the funeral, i.e. the necessary administrative procedures, arrangements for the funeral, etc. An application is required to register a funeral. This application is available from the local undertakers. Otherwise, it can also be obtained from the cemetery administration in the Environment and Greenery Department. A death certificate must also be submitted. The death certificate is issued by the registry office responsible for the place of death.
You can find out which documents are required in detail, e.g. birth certificate, family register, etc., at the registry office.
It is advisable to enquire about burial options in advance. In the event of a funeral, relatives are often overwhelmed because many things have to be organised at the same time.
If the relatives have already informed themselves about the individual options in advance, it is easier to decide on the choice of grave when a death occurs.
Under "Cemetery services" you can find out more about the different burial options and the various types of grave.
You can obtain more detailed information from the Environment and Greenery Department.
Further information about the cemetery can be found here.
