Wild rubbish

  • Performance specification

Wild litter is not only the spectacular and large piles of rubbish in the wild, as we know them from media reports, or the parked refrigerator or television in the forest. Carelessly discarded cigarette butts and cigarette packets, chewing gum in the pedestrian zone and beverage cans in the ditch are just as much part of it as the freshly emptied ashtray contents from the car that are now on the street.

The disposal of tree, shrub and lawn cuttings and other garden waste is also increasingly being solved at the expense of nature.
Many garden owners dump their garden waste into the woods, a side ditch or any other green area near their garden. There is a widespread opinion that this does not cause any damage. This is a mistake!

    • The microorganisms and microorganisms are no longer able to convert additional biomass into humus.
    • Mould and fermentation processes occur due to compaction, for example with larger quantities of lawn clippings. The result: organisms die.
    • The natural cycle is interrupted. The trees become root-sick and later die.
    • The additional nutrient input limits the natural biodiversity.
    • Animal buildings are filled in.

Depending on the type of waste, there are also different dangers for nature and the environment:

    • Danger of spontaneous combustion due to burning glass effect,
    • Water and soil pollution due to deposits of liquid hazardous waste,
    • Risk of injury to the animals.

It is one thing that litter is ugly and a danger to the environment and health. The other thing is that these offences are by no means "trivial offences", but rather tangible administrative offences or even criminal offences, which are also punished accordingly.

All citizens of Beckum pay the costs for the disposal of illegal waste. These are not exactly low, because it is often laborious and time-consuming manual work to remove the illegally disposed of waste from nature and to dispose of it properly.

The question of why and what can be done is not so easy to answer. An important role here is played by the necessary but not always easy separation of household waste. Each of us is aware that today we can no longer throw all our waste into one big bin and drive it to the landfill. The clean separation of waste takes time and is sometimes laborious, but there is no alternative to this. The nature and environment service is committed to providing assistance through its waste advisory service.

Not only consumption stands for a good quality of life, but also a clean environment. Everyone in Beckum can make a small but decisive contribution to this. A clean environment - this concerns soil, air and water - is a goal worth striving for all Beckum residents. Achieving this or maintaining the results already achieved already starts in the "small". Also by preventing wild rubbish.

Information on illegal waste dumping and its originators is available from the Nature and Environment Service.
