Garden water meter

The waste water charge is calculated on the basis of the volume of fresh water purchased from the local water supplier. For the calculation, the amount of water demonstrably consumed or retained on the property, which is generally used for garden irrigation, can be deducted from the amount of fresh water. It is the responsibility of the person liable to pay the charge to provide evidence of this quantity of water.
Proof of the amount of water consumed or retained must be provided by a properly functioning water meter ("garden water meter") installed at the water withdrawal point at the expense of the person liable to pay the charges.

The garden water meter
The following criteria must be met when installing a garden water meter.
It

• must be permanently installed at the water withdrawal point (in the installed water supply pipe or on the tap),
• may only be installed at a water withdrawal point below which there is no drain connected to the sewerage system (e.g. washbasin, drainage channel), and
• must be installed correctly (the counter must run forwards).

Owners are recommended to commission an installation company to professionally install a garden water meter.

Registration
Garden water meters must be registered with the City of Beckum in writing - if possible by email - before commissioning. Please use the registration form. The e-mail address for registrations is gartenwasser@beckum.de.
Alternatively, the garden water meter can be registered in person or the form can be requested by telephone. In subsequent years, only the meter reading needs to be communicated.

Notification of the meter reading of the garden water meter

The owners of the registered garden water meters can inform the City of Beckum of the meter readings informally in writing or by e-mail at gartenwasser@beckum.de.

The following information is required:

• Reference number
• Property address
• Meter number
• Meter reading
• Reading date

The notification must be received by the City of Beckum by 10 January of the following year for the previous year at the latest. Later notifications can no longer be taken into account in accordance with Section 4 (6) of the Contribution and Fee Statutes to the Drainage Statutes of the City of Beckum (exclusion period).

Checks
The City of Beckum reserves the right to check that the garden water meters are being used correctly and that the information provided on the meter readings is correct.
