Change at the top of the fire service
Marcus Scheele was thanked for his decades of service
“With you, an exceptionally dedicated, versatile and highly regarded colleague is taking his well-deserved retirement. You have overseen countless projects, always treated your colleagues with respect, and championed your causes with impressive expertise, clarity and persuasiveness,” said Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich at the ceremony marking your transfer to the honorary division. Scheele’s achievements extended far beyond the city limits. “I would like to thank you most sincerely for this outstanding contribution to the good of our city.”
Marcus Scheele joined the volunteer fire brigade at the age of 16. In 1992, he moved to full-time service, where he served as deputy platoon commander from 1999 and later as platoon commander. Scheele took over as head of the fire brigade in 2006. In this role, he was particularly keen to bring together full-time and voluntary staff into a single unit. He set new standards in many other areas too, for example as training manager for the Warendorf district’s breathing apparatus operator course, and with the founding of the children’s fire brigade in 2018. Ensuring the fire brigade had up-to-date equipment was also always a priority for this passionate firefighter. As such, he played a key role in driving forward the construction work and the further development of the fire brigade. In recognition of his outstanding services, Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich recommends to Beckum Town Council that Marcus Scheele be awarded the title of ‘Honorary Town Fire Chief’.
On 9 May, the 60-year-old will be given a grand send-off with a full military tattoo on the market square. Christian Heickmann has been appointed as his successor.
