IW Local Authority Check
Beckum is one of Germany’s best local authorities
Out of a total of 10,817 towns and municipalities, Beckum has achieved an outstanding 81st place with an overall rating of ‘very good’ – placing it among the top 1 per cent of all local authorities nationwide.
This makes Beckum not only the clear frontrunner in the Warendorf district, but also in the entire Münsterland region – and it even ranks ahead of many larger towns, including Münster, which is in 114th place in the ranking.
Beckum performs particularly well in terms of so-called ‘soft’ location factors. In the area of education, the town ranks 80th in Germany, placing it firmly amongst the very best. Beckum also impresses in the leisure category, coming 96th, which underlines its high quality of life and living environment. In the health category, Beckum ranks 331st, further confirming a very high standard of care for local residents.
Beckum is also showing positive development in other areas of the future: in the field of mobility, the town is already ranked 2,746th, placing it among the top 25 per cent of all local authorities in Germany. In terms of digitalisation, Beckum is ranked 3,922nd, placing it among the top 36 per cent nationwide. The results illustrate that Beckum is building on a strong foundation and is working systematically on other key future issues.
Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich sees the town’s strong performance as confirmation of its standing: “The results of the IW Municipal Assessment show that Beckum is excellently positioned in key areas affecting the future and quality of life. We are particularly proud of our top rankings in education and leisure. They underline Beckum’s high quality of life as a place to live, work and do business. At the same time, the results spur us on to maintain this high standard and to continue developing our town consistently in the areas of mobility and digitalisation.”
