Feminist Law Clinic
Free legal advice for women and queer people
Whether it’s sexual harassment, maintenance disputes or changing one’s registered gender: legal issues in one’s personal life can be stressful and confusing. The Feminist Law Clinic offers support with sensitive legal matters – free of charge, confidentially and with low barriers to access.
As Monika Björklund, the City of Beckum’s Equal Opportunities Officer, explains, the new service is specifically aimed at women and queer people. The advice is provided on a voluntary basis and is supported by qualified female lawyers. “Although those seeking advice do not receive legal representation, they do receive sound guidance,” explains Monika Björklund. For example, the team helps with questions such as whether it makes sense to file a police report, or explains the steps required to enforce one’s rights.
Given the often distressing nature of the issues discussed, all counsellors have undergone awareness training. Where necessary, the Clinic refers clients to psychosocial support services, aid organisations or specialist solicitors.
