Closure from the end of June

Straßen.NRW’s Münsterland regional office is redesigning the B58 between Ahlen and Beckum. As a first step, work is currently underway in the area of the new roundabout on Kruppstraße. Traffic is being channelled past the construction site in single-lane sections with the aid of traffic lights. According to a press release from the state agency, work is progressing well; currently, the topsoil is being removed in the relevant area for the new eastern bypass and the sub-base for the new roundabout is being prepared. Work on the new bus stops on the north side is also underway.

In order to streamline the entire construction process and better coordinate the various stages of work – such as the construction of the second half of the roundabout, the bus stops and the refurbishment of the road – Straßen.NRW and the construction company have decided to bring forward the full closure, originally planned for August, to the end of June.

The B 58 is then due to be completely closed between Kruppstraße and the roundabout once the works are complete. The extensive diversion route has been agreed with the district authority and the local councils and runs via the L 586, K 42 and K 1. In the final phase, the section between Kleibrinkstiege and Kruppstraße will be fully closed to allow for the refurbishment and redesign of this area to create a footpath and cycle path. The first section can be reopened at this point. The works are due to be completed by the end of the year.

As stated in the announcement, the total cost of the project amounts to around 7.5 million euros. Of this, the town of Ahlen is contributing approximately 1.6 million euros towards the construction of the roundabout. The remaining costs are being borne by the federal government.
