City tour apps
Explore the city at your own pace and in a relaxed manner
The ‘audio tour’, which lasts around 40 minutes, offers fascinating insights into the town’s medieval history, its carnival traditions and the importance of the cement industry. The 1.5-kilometre circular walk takes you to the main sights, including Beckum’s greatest treasure: Westphalia’s most significant Romanesque gold shrine in St Stephen’s Provost Church, which was created around 1230 in honour of Saint Prudentia. The tour starts and ends at the town model next to the Provost Church. The audio tour app is available in German and English.
Anyone wishing to take in some additional visual impressions can make use of the geo-based augmented reality tour (AR tour). Accompanied by the virtual mascot, Murr the tomcat, you can explore the sights at your own pace. The cat shows you the way, shares facts and anecdotes, whilst well-known songs from Beckum and audio recordings accompany the tour. Particularly impressive are the 360-degree interior views of the town church, the town museum and the Old Defence Tower. For children, the tour offers an extra highlight: a playful mouse hunt with Murr the cat.
The AR tour follows the same route as the audio tour, also takes around 40 minutes and also starts at the town model. The ‘Beckum AR Stadtführung’ app is available free of charge from the App Store and Google Play Store, just like the audio tour app.
