‘Warendorfer Mischung’ brings Beckum to life
For the past seven years, the wildflower seeds from the ‘Warendorfer Mischung’ have been creating small oases of biodiversity throughout the district. Bellflower, meadow knapweed, chicory, meadow daisy, mullein, red campion and many other plant species are a delight to the eye and magically attract wild bees and butterflies.
The annual, biennial and perennial plants in this mixture, which has been specially designed for the Warendorf district, are native to the area – meaning they have been grown in our region and also occur naturally here. There is no need to replant every year. This ensures that native insects find exactly the selection of plants they need. The mixture is not suitable for sowing in open countryside.
The sachets will be handed out free of charge from 2 April at the Beckum City Council’s citizen service centres in the town halls in Beckum and Neubeckum – two sachets per household, whilst stocks last. Instructions on sowing and caring for the seeds are available online at https://www.kreis-warendorf.de/fileadmin/61/natur-und-artenschutz/Flyer_Saatguttueten_2024.pdf
Clubs, schools or nurseries requiring larger quantities can order them from the council’s climate action manager, Lena Herzog, at herzog@beckum.de.
