‘Air Show’ at the Jahnstadion gets a new look

The traditional Beckum VR-Bank Women’s Pole Vault Meeting is taking place at the picturesque Jahnstadion. This 26th ‘Flight Show’ will showcase 14 world-class female athletes to local sports fans. The stage is set, and the pole vaulting elite are making their way to Beckum in Westphalia.

This world-class international athletics event will take place for the 26th time on Sunday 30 August. According to the current start list, 14 female athletes from ten nations will be competing in the high jump from 3 pm onwards, presenting sports fans from near and far with the sporting highlight of the year in Beckum.

The main sponsor of this internationally renowned sporting event is VR Bank Westfalen-Lippe eG. Chairman Stefan Hoffmann is full of anticipation: “Even following our merger to form VR Bank Westfalen-Lippe, our deep connection to the region remains. The 26th edition of the Women’s Pole Vault Meeting is a fine example of this. In keeping with this new chapter, the event is also taking on a fresh look this year, whilst retaining its tried-and-tested core: a top-class pole vault spectacle with spine-tingling moments right in the heart of Beckum.”

That is why, at the 26th Pole Vault Meeting, all sports fans will now be able to make flexible use of the entire spectator area on the event site. “Everyone can choose their favourite spot. The result is an even more intense competitive atmosphere, hopefully accompanied by perfect summer weather,” announces the Chairman of the Board.

In any case, the groundwork for this spectacular athletics event has long since been laid. The two organisers, Turnverein Beckum and the City of Beckum, with the usual support from VR Bank, invite you to the Jahnstadion on Konrad-Adenauer-Ring – admission is free.

With the newly designed event posters, Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich, VR-Bank CEO Stefan Hoffmann, Wolfgang Krogmeier (Chairman of TV Beckum) and Head of Department Cornelia Baumann are drawing attention to this world-class athletics meeting. The meeting has once again been significantly enhanced following its reinstatement on the World Athletics Continental Tour.

With the junior women's competition, the organisers are also once again offering a competition that is specifically aimed at up-and-coming talent and promotes young female athletes with international potential.

So, on Sunday 30 August, the world’s elite will once again gather in Püttstadt to crown the 26th winner. As usual, the athletes will begin the high jump competition at 3 pm, following the warm-up. From 12 noon onwards, the junior women will compete in their jumping events at the same venue. The prize-giving ceremony for this event will take place immediately before the women’s competition. By around 5 pm, the successor to last year’s winner, Molly Caudery from Great Britain, should be confirmed.

There may also be a challenge to the stadium record of 4.91 metres held by Yarisley Silva of Cuba, which has stood unbroken since 2015. Athletes from New Zealand, Brazil, the USA, Hungary, France and Japan, as well as Belgium, Norway and, of course, Germany, have set their sights on this goal. Meet director Christof Kelzenberg has put together a strong field of competitors from ten nations.

“Admission to the meeting is free, as usual,” said Wolfgang Krogmeier, highlighting one of the event’s enduring features. “What’s more, there’s always a unique atmosphere at the Jahnstadion,” he said, reflecting on the 25th edition of a sporting event that, year after year, delights and captivates countless visitors.
