A decision has been reached on the suggestions and complaints received regarding the planned “An der Steinbruchallee” development area , and the administration’s proposed resolution was unanimously approved. This paves the way for the new neighbourhood.

The Rossmann chemist’s in Neubeckum intends to expand its retail space in order to continue to meet increased operational requirements and to secure the long-term future of the site. The local development plan has been amended accordingly. The resolution was passed unanimously.

City Treasurer Thomas Wulf gave a PowerPoint presentation on the annual accounts for 2025 and highlighted the generally precarious financial situation facing local authorities, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia. This is due, in particular, to social security expenditure, over which the towns have little control. In Beckum, however, the loss was kept within reasonable limits: Thanks to significantly higher trade tax revenue (34 million euros compared with the budgeted 22.5 million euros), the provisional result was better than expected – with a net loss for the year of 0.6 million euros. The annual deficit will be covered by the equalisation reserve. “Thanks to our financial cushion – the equalisation reserve – Beckum is in a comparatively good position. We owe this to the economic strength of local businesses. But our cushion won’t last forever,” warns Wulf. The comprehensive set of figures is still being audited and is therefore not yet finalised.
