‘Hand in Hand’ Festival of Cultures on 13 September
Plans for a colourful festival are in full swing
The aim is for people from different cultural backgrounds to celebrate together and strike up conversations. On stage, singing and dance groups from various countries, dressed in traditional costume and playing traditional instruments, as well as choirs and bands, provide musical entertainment. There is also a wide range of information on the topic of integration. International delicacies will delight the palate. The little ones can let off steam on the bouncy castle, have their faces painted in imaginative designs or take part in hands-on activities.
The organisers of the festival – the Committee for Equal Opportunities and Integration of the City of Beckum, Innosozial Ahlen and the City of Beckum – have invited all interested parties to an initial information event. Martin May-Neitemann from the City of Beckum’s Social Services Department and Inneke Dreier, Chair of the Committee for Equal Opportunities and Integration, expressly emphasised the importance of this now traditional cultural festival as a bridge between people from different countries and cultures:
“Previous festivals have already shown that when food, drink and entertainment are offered together – and particularly through the information stands run by the participating clubs and associations – people from different cultural backgrounds strike up conversations with one another and develop an interest in other cultures.”
There is still an opportunity to get involved in organising the festival. For further information, please contact Martin May-Neitemann at the Social Services Department of Beckum Town Council on 02521 29-5001.
