Basic income support in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity

  • Performance specification

Basic income support in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity is an application-dependent type of benefit within the framework of social welfare law that ensures the basic needs for the livelihood of older people and people who are permanently fully disabled.
It essentially differs from "normal" social assistance in that children or parents are not required to provide maintenance unless they have an annual income of more than €100,000. In this case, the Warendorf district maintenance centre will check any maintenance obligation.

Who can receive benefits under this Act? Persons with habitual residence in the Federal Republic of Germany who have reached the age of 65 or who have reached the age of 18 and are permanently fully incapacitated for work for medical reasons, regardless of the respective labour market situation.
Receipt of a pension due to old age or full reduction in earning capacity is not a prerequisite.
Persons who are unable to support themselves from their own income and assets or from the income and assets of a spouse or cohabiting partner who is not separated, insofar as they exceed their own needs, are entitled to benefits.
Amounts of money up to €10,000 for each adult in the community of need are not taken into account.

    Who is not entitled?
Persons who have caused their neediness intentionally or through gross negligence within the last 10 years, foreign nationals who are entitled to benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act.

How much basic income support can you receive?
    The requirement includes:
the standard rate applicable to the applicant
the reasonable actual expenses for accommodation and heating (pro rata if there are several people in the household)
any health and long-term care insurance contributions and
any additional requirements, e.g. if you have a severely disabled person's pass with the "G" mark
If your income is not sufficient but you have assets that you have to use for your living expenses, there is no basic income support. Once the assets to be used have been utilised, you can submit a new application for basic income support.
Please make an appointment in advance by telephone for a personal consultation or to submit an application.
