Standing ovation
Albrecht Menzel and Elisabeth Brauß inspire
Under the title "When violin and grand piano meet", the violin virtuoso Albrecht Menzel, acclaimed by the press as the "devil's violinist" of the new century, delighted the audience. Together with pianist Elisabeth Brauß, he played Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Sonata in G major, KV 301, with great virtuosity and nuance. This was followed by the Sonata for Violin and Piano in E flat major, Opus 18, by Richard Strauss - the composer's only violin sonata.
The artist and the performer, who inspired each other in their playing and formed a unity, were given an enthusiastic ovation before the interval. In the second part of the concert, Albrecht Menzel and Elisabeth Brauß played the four-movement Sonata in A major for violin and piano by César Franck with great expression and technical brilliance. After a standing ovation and long-lasting final applause, the two played the "Czardas" by Italian composer Vittorio Monti as an encore.
The magnificent concert took the audience through three centuries of music history and will remain in their memories for some time to come.
