Fibre optic expansion started in Beckum

Representatives of Telekom and the city of Beckum have now jointly given the go-ahead for the new fibre optic network. The first of a total of 12,985 households and businesses will soon be able to use Telekom's fibre optic network. The new fibre-optic network will enable significantly higher speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second. The expansion is expected to be completed by summer 2028. Telekom will lay more than 850 kilometres of fibre optic cable to homes and install 85 new network distributors.

Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich emphasises the importance of reliable internet connections: "Fibre optics is the technology that will meet the increasing demands of the digital world today and in the future. A powerful and reliable Internet connection has long since become a decisive location factor for private households and companies. I am therefore delighted that Deutsche Telekom has now begun its fibre optic expansion for Beckum."

"We are keeping our word: in Beckum, we are building fibre optics for 12,985 households and businesses by summer 2028. This means that Beckum will be almost fully supplied with fibre optics," says Ali Zebib, Regional Manager at Telekom. "Anyone who books a tariff with Deutsche Telekom now will have their connection in just a few months. Anyone who hesitates will have to reckon with new construction sites and connection fees of around 1,000 euros later and wait longer," he adds.

Fibre optic offers many advantages
With a fibre optic connection, home Wi-Fi is so stable that several people can learn and work, surf, stream and play digitally at the same time. Every household already has more than ten internet-enabled devices on average - and the trend is rising. Companies and the self-employed can also react flexibly to the constantly growing digital requirements.

The city administration and Telekom are working closely together on the expansion. Transparency and professional construction site management are the top priority. In order to minimise the inconvenience for local residents, work is being carried out in individual construction phases.

Free connection
If you are renting, all you have to do is book a fibre-optic tariff at www.telekom.de/glasfaser. Telekom will take care of the agreement with the property owner, as they must give their consent.

Owners of detached or semi-detached houses also receive the home connection free of charge if they book a tariff. Apartment blocks with three or more residential units usually receive the house connection free of charge with the owner's consent - the respective parties then need to book a tariff to use the Internet. Telekom also provides support for the further laying of the fibre optic cable at home and ensures that everything runs smoothly. Telekom will send a letter informing you in detail about the necessary measures.
