Work in Neubeckum has been completed

The town hall forecourt now looks greener and more inviting

The new features provide more greenery, enhance the quality of the environment and contribute to a more sustainable design of public spaces.

To make the site more resilient to heat and heavy rain, existing tree pits were converted into deep planting beds, amongst other measures. These allow the trees and shrubs to be watered naturally by rainwater. In addition, new lawns, enlarged tree pits and perennial beds improve water infiltration and enhance the square’s appearance. Six new silver lime trees and a new hornbeam frame the semi-circular square facing Gustav-Moll-Straße and the roundabout. Mobile planters and new wooden benches further encourage people to linger. At the rear of the town hall, four newly planted roof plane trees create a shaded seating area.

Since the beginning of December, nine letters on the town hall forecourt have been inviting visitors to relax – and they are truly one of a kind.

A particular eye-catcher is the central seating sculpture featuring the illuminated lettering ‘Neubeckum’. The feature was created as part of a student competition and has been delighting many local residents since December. The new square design is complemented by illuminated columns and bicycle racks.

The project forms part of the Integrated Urban Development Plan for Neubeckum (ISEK Neubeckum) and was 60 per cent funded by urban development grants. The total cost amounts to around 150,000 euros.
