A summer full of stories, adventures and team spirit

From now on, teams of up to five members, as well as individual readers from nursery age onwards, can register at Beckum Public Library. As the Neubeckum Municipal Library is currently undergoing modernisation, all children and young people from Neubeckum are warmly invited to join in the reading and activities in Beckum.

Once again this year, the Summer Reading Club is offering a varied programme that goes far beyond books. New stories, audio plays and creative activities ensure that the summer holidays are guaranteed not to be boring.

Here’s what nursery children can expect:

• Create a picture book film: With the iMovie app, children aged 4 and over can turn a picture book being read aloud into their very own little film.
• First steps in programming: With the popular BeeBots, even the youngest children can learn how programming works through play.
• Weekly storytime sessions: a time for listening and marvelling.

Primary school children discover detective stories

• SLC on Tour: A treasure hunt based on four recent detective stories – outdoors, or in the library if it rains.
• Treasure hunt: Become detectives yourselves and find the hidden treasure.
• Games afternoon: board games, card games and loads of fun.

For young people (Years 5–7)

• A blind date with a book: surprises guaranteed.
• Escape room workshop: Young people are designing their own escape rooms, which will be available to play at the ‘Nachtfrequenz’ event in September at the Altes E-Werk.
  
  

For young people aged 14 and over

• Murder Mystery Dinner: An exciting evening with assigned roles – thrills included.

For all participants

• Developing your own games: creativity meets teamwork.
• Team photos with a green screen: imaginative keepsake photos.
• Creative activities: crafting, designing, trying things out.

Grand opening event

Book reading with Jasmin Schaudinn on Wednesday 17 June at 4 pm: she will be reading from *Hiro and the Dragon – The Magic Rickshaw*. Books will be available to buy at the event.

LeseOskar Gala 2026

Once again this year, bookworm Lotta – also known as Meike Wiemann – is presenting the popular Beckum Reading Oscars – for creative reading boxes, exciting stories, lovingly designed logbooks and much more.

Closing ceremony

The grand gala takes place on Friday, 11 September, at 4 pm – complete with a red carpet, of course.

Good to know: All events are free of charge. The full programme is available at Beckum Public Library. As well as traditional reading logs, an online version with lots of extras is also available.
