The town of Beckum streamlines its administrative structure
This follows the departure of Dr Christian Hofbauer, the former head of the Environment and Construction Department, who is leaving the town of Beckum of his own accord.
“We are taking this opportunity to make the city administration leaner, more efficient and more cost-effective. The new structure consolidates responsibilities, reduces overlaps and ensures clear lines of accountability,” explains Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich.
The responsibilities of the previously independent ‘Environment and Construction’ department will be distributed amongst the existing departments. As a result of the integration of these areas of responsibility, the two existing departments, ‘Finance and Investments’ and ‘Education, Culture and Leisure’, will be given new names. Building management will be assigned to the future ‘Finance and Property’ department, whilst the specialist services ‘Civil Engineering’ and ‘Environment and Green Spaces’ will be incorporated into the existing ‘Urban Development’ department. In addition, city marketing and the cultural office will be merged into the new specialist service “Culture and City Marketing” within the renamed department “Education, Culture and Sport”.
With this reorganisation, the city is pursuing several objectives:
- Within the Department of Urban Development, urban planning, civil engineering and other key functions are to be more closely integrated in order to prepare and implement urban development projects more efficiently.
- Bringing culture and city marketing together strengthens both the organisation of events and the promotion of the city.
- Streamlining the administrative structure also takes the strain off the city’s budget.
The changes coming into effect on 1 July are just a first step. Over the coming months, the administrative organisation will be further analysed and developed. The guiding principle here is to establish a sustainable structure with a balanced distribution of responsibilities across the departments.
