Cycling concept

In the Transport Development Plan (VEP) 2030 as well as in the Masterplan 100% KlimaBEwusst, the recommendation was formulated to develop a city-wide cycling concept for the city of Beckum. In this context, the engineering firm IKS Mobilitätsplanung was commissioned with the development of a cycling concept. The project started in spring 2020 and the cycling concept was developed in a participatory process until the beginning of 2022. The overarching goal is to shift journeys by car to cycling and thus to significantly increase the share of cycling from the current 18 percent. By shifting the modal split in favour of cycling as part of the environmental network, the quality of stay and life in Beckum is to be increased and overall CO2 emissions minimised. In order to achieve these goals, various fields of action and measures have been formulated in the concept, which are to be tackled in the coming years. The concept focuses not only on infrastructural measures, but also on non-investment measures.

The council of the city of Beckum adopted the cycling concept in its meeting on 17 May 2022.
