Certificate of good conduct

  • Performance specification

If you need a certificate of good conduct, for example for a job application, you can apply for it at the Citizens' Registration Office, regardless of whether you are registered in Beckum with your main or secondary residence.

    IMPORTANT:

Persons of full legal age and their legal representatives cannot be represented by a proxy when applying for a certificate of good conduct (according to § 30 para. 2 Federal Central Register Act).

Police certificates of good conduct are issued exclusively by the Federal Office of Justice in Bonn (Bundeszentralregisterauszug). Anyone who has reached the age of 14 can apply for a certificate of good conduct.
Up to the age of 18, the legal representative can also apply for a certificate of good conduct.

    Personal application
The application is made in person in your presence at the Citizens' Registration Office if you are registered in Beckum with your main or secondary residence. Persons who are exempt from the obligation to register or who have no fixed address can apply for a certificate of good conduct at the registration office in whose district you usually reside.

    Online application
Information on online applications can be found here: www.bundesjustizamt.de

    1.Simple certificate of good conduct:
    A distinction is made between:
Document type N = certificate of good conduct for private purposes e.g. employer (Privatführungszeugnis) and
Document type O = certificate of good conduct for submission to a German authority (Behördenführungszeugnis)

    2.Extended certificates of good conduct:
A distinction is made here between:
Document type NE = extended certificate of good conduct which can be issued for persons who are to work professionally, in an honorary capacity or in any other way close to children and young people
Document type OE = extended certificate of good conduct which can be issued for persons who are to work professionally, in an honorary capacity or in any other way close to children and young people and which is required for submission to a public authority
To apply for an extended certificate of good conduct, written proof of the authority issuing the extended certificate of good conduct pursuant to § 30a of the Federal Central Register Act (Bundesentralregistergesetz) is required. § 30a of the Federal Central Register Act (BZRG).
No forms will be recognised that are provided to applicants for completion with blank signatures. Likewise, no forms will be recognised which are made available on the internet without a signature and which contain an addendum stating that they were produced by machine and would also be valid without a signature and seal. Such documents do not constitute a valid request within the meaning of Section 30a (2) BZRG, as they do not show that the requesting office (e.g. employer) has checked and confirmed the existence of the requirements in the individual case.
Although the Citizens' Registration Office is not obliged to check the written request for correctness of content, it is entitled to reject the application if a recognisably and obviously incorrect request is submitted. This also applies if the written request shows that the employment is not subject to any special requirements for the protection of children and young persons.
Further information can be found on the homepage of the Federal Office of Justice www.bundesjustizamt.de

    3. European certificate of good conduct
Persons who - in addition to or instead of German citizenship - hold citizenship of one or more other member states of the European Union must apply for a European certificate of good conduct (according to § 30b BZRG).
This means that not only entries in the German criminal record are checked but also those of the respective country of origin.
If the requirements are met, a European certificate of good conduct is issued - depending on the application - both as a private certificate of good conduct and as a certificate of good conduct for submission to a public authority or as an extended certificate of good conduct.
If a European certificate of good conduct is applied for, the Federal Office of Justice asks the Member State of origin to inform it of the contents of the register there so that it can be included in the certificate of good conduct.
This request can take up to 20 days until the Federal Office of Justice receives the information from the home member state.
