As part of the state initiative "Sustainable inner cities and town centres in North Rhine-Westphalia", the town of Beckum has applied for funding of around 520,000 euros to support measures to strengthen the town centre. Around 252,000 euros of this will be allocated to Beckum town centre and around 268,000 euros to Neubeckum town centre. A decision is expected in the autumn.

Among other things, the hoped-for money will be used to further enhance the market square in Beckum as an impulse for the town centre, for example with umbrellas, mobile greenery or illumination. Other building blocks include rental funds and conversion lump sums for vacant shops or shops that are at risk of becoming vacant. A new "green courtyard and façade programme" for Beckum could also be financed from this budget.

It can also promote the planning and conceptual consideration of city centres. Once the immediate action programme expires at the end of the year, the city and state would continue to support the reorientation of city centres towards multifunctionality as well as climate and intergenerational justice.
