Colourful planters adorn the main street

The sun didn't make an appearance at the photo shoot. But the new colourful planters in front of many shops on Neubeckum's main street shone all the more brightly. The faces of those involved were beaming. Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich was delighted: "It was great to see so many people taking part. This is a great addition to the townscape of Neubeckum!"

Plants in tubs

Real community action
A total of 13 tubs have been installed so far. The first project to be implemented from the city centre disposal fund is a genuine community initiative. The idea of bringing more colour to the main street with colourful tubs was born last year. The trade association then put the project into practice together with the city centre management: locations were scouted, retailers and service providers in the centre were approached, prices were obtained, planting was selected and finally an application was submitted to the Disposal Fund Advisory Board, which was promptly approved.

150 euros personal contribution
And so the tubs could be ordered. The personal contribution for all those who take part is 150 euros, including planting and fixing. The other half is provided by the fund. The city took care of the fixing itself, the planting was done by the Ohm plant centre - the new flower shop on the main street.

Neubeckum now even more colourful
Serena Kappenberg and Annika Siebert from Neubeckum town centre management are very pleased with the success of the project: "For us, the project idea was a great opportunity to get to know the people along the main street!" said Annika Siebert at the photo shoot. And Thomas Dreier added: "I'm pleased that the project for a more attractive city centre has also reached Neubeckum residents outside of the trade association."

Many contributors - more welcome
The Adler pharmacy, Hemesath butchers, Gödde Hausrat, St. Franziskus parish, Optik Frerich, Provinzial Hübner Neubeckum, St. Anna senior centre, Schuhhaus Dreier, Volksbank eG and Voß Textilpflege have all taken part. Anyone who would like to set up and look after a bucket can contact the Neubeckum town centre management team.

Development fund for Neubeckum town centre
The development fund is one of the projects being implemented as part of the integrated urban development concept for Neubeckum. It can be used to subsidise ideas with up to 6,000 euros. In each case, half of the amount must be realised independently. The projects must be located within the Neubeckum town centre area. An advisory board decides on the implementation.
