European elections on 9 June

What do EU citizens living in Germany need to bear in mind?

The European elections will take place in Germany on 9 June. The age for voting in European elections has been lowered from 18 to 16 for the first time. All Germans entitled to vote and all non-German EU citizens aged 16 and over who have already applied to be entered on the electoral roll will be included in the electoral roll, which will be drawn up on 28 April.

The remaining non-German EU citizens who live in Beckum and wish to vote in the European elections must decide whether they wish to vote in Beckum or in their home country. If they wish to vote in Beckum, they must apply to be entered on the electoral roll. The application can be downloaded under Elections or collected directly from the Citizens' Office. It must be returned to the Citizens' Office by 19 May at the latest.

In Beckum, 2,275 non-German EU citizens have not yet applied to be entered on the electoral roll. These people were contacted by the Citizens' Office to inform them about this procedure. If an application has already been submitted for the 2019 European elections, no new application is required.

The election notification cards with further information will be sent to all eligible voters by 16 May.

Electoral assistants still needed!

Electoral assistants are still being sought for election day on 9 June. In particular, applications as polling clerks and secretaries are welcome. All interested voters should send an email to wahlen@beckum.de.
