City cycling from 25 May to 14 June

Pedalling for the climate and fun

Then Beckum residents, companies, organisations, clubs, schools and members of local parliaments can cycle as many distances as possible in a climate-friendly way and collect kilometres in the process.

The campaign is organised as a competition. We are looking for Germany's most active districts and municipalities and the most hard-working teams and cyclists. Great prizes will again be raffled off among all participants in Beckum.

True to the motto "Cycling for the good life", the district of Warendorf, together with the towns and municipalities, would like to motivate people to get on their bikes for their health and to make a small contribution to climate protection.

The easiest way is with the city cycling app

Anyone who lives, works or is involved in a club in Beckum can register free of charge via the Stadtradeln website. The most convenient way is to install the free City Cycling app on your smartphone. Here, participants can conveniently track the distances cycled via GPS and credit them directly to their team and municipality. The kilometres then flow together virtually in a team pot. In addition, all kilometres cycled contribute to the overall ranking for the district of Warendorf and are therefore also in competition with the other districts and administrative districts - just as every cyclist automatically "cycles" their own kilometres for their town and municipality.

Last year's result topped
"The campaign was already a complete success last year: in 2023, the almost 900 Beckum cyclists in 59 teams cycled 186,195 kilometres during the campaign period, avoiding 30,000 kilograms ofCO2. They thus exceeded last year's performance (121,102 kilometres) by more than 65,000 kilometres. The aim this year is to beat these figures," said the city cycling coordination team Silke Stöppel and Max Hegemann, encouraging participation. Registration is now open at www.stadtradeln.de/beckum. Active participants from last year can reactivate their account by logging in with the known data.

School cycling NRW: Secondary schools in Beckum in demand!

At the same time, the NRW school cycling programme is also entering its 4th round! Last year, 1,493 schools with almost 88,000 cyclists took part, putting our federal state in the lead.

The aim of the competition is to make schoolchildren fit for cycling in everyday life and in their leisure time in order to promote the independent mobility of children and young people.

Every school has the chance to become North Rhine-Westphalia's school cycling champion.

We are looking for winners in the following categories:

  • Most active cycling school: The prize is awarded to all schools that have cycled at least 20,000 kilometres. The school with the most kilometres per capita is awarded a prize.
  • Best school campaign on the subject of cycling: Under the motto "With my bike through all adventures - on the move for the climate!", schools or classes are being sought that show how they combine cycling and school with innovative, funny and creative campaigns.

The achievements of the most active schools will be honoured at a nationwide closing event in autumn.

The school cycling event is also part of the nationwide STADTRADELN "Cycling for a good climate" campaign organised by the Climate Alliance. All pupils, parents and teachers at secondary schools are called upon to cycle as many distances as possible for three weeks. After all, every everyday journey made by bike is a personal contribution to climate protection and also promotes physical activity.
